I've traded broadsides with Atago's and Baltimores in that ship, and won because I switched to AP and they didn't. I notice that trend a ~lot~ in my Atlanta since any ship in the game can citadel it from most angles, and kill it in 2-3 volleys at most, but HE-spamming cruisers and DDs keep spamming HE at it instead. Most players basically never change their ammo type. That seems to be changing with the KM BBs since they have generally smaller guns and need to select ammo and targets much more like a cruiser would. Shooting at the bow of a BB is the only exception (you can often kill DDs with AP even). It's usually not even worthwhile to waste a reload changing ammo types. With USN and IJN BBs (except the Ishisuchi) AP can work for almost all targets (even when it's not best). I mean there were two BB and it couldn't hurt the NM. Its funny, I had to tell a Fuso captain that he need to use HE against heavily angled/tail in NM because he didn't know he can do that.

I can definitely see how the non-existence of CVs hurts too going back and looking at tier 5, part of why the bow-on meta doesn't exist there is that people haven't given up on CVs at tier 4 and 5 yet, so a BB that isn't moving at least 12 knots or so can expect to get hit. I was just pointing out the HE is something you use when nothing else works. I'd definitely rather work around the problem. But it would have been a viable solution, rather than taking away some BB's ONLY safe angle. I'm not trying to encourage HE spamming in BB's. you rarely saw this behavior back when CV's were in a good place. I've found this works fairly well as a counter.Īlso, back before all the CV nerfs, THEY were a great solution to the bow-on problem. I light them up, let them use their repair, do it again, and then do regular AP damage. True, you make good points. But would you rather spam HE, or see WG succumb to the whiners out there and nerf bow armor? I have done 50K damage in Montna against bow-on BB's just with HE and fires.
